What a provincial private sewage certificate means. In Alberta, a private sewage permit can only be taken out by a contractor who holds a certificate of competency for private sewage. A PS certificate covers every type of private sewage system and also lets the holder take out permits for water and sewer service connections. An R-PS certificate is restricted to holding tanks. The province publishes the list of current certificate holders. Being on that list means the firm can pull the permit; it is not a review of the firm's work. Pumping out a tank is a separate service that needs no certificate. See the official list.
